Overview
This hospital expansion offers a critical boost to patient care in the surrounding areas of Arlington County and Washington D.C., strengthening the existing Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) campus. The VHC Ambulatory Care Building expansion aims to solve the demands of a growing population, adding critical office and service space as well as adding parking. Walter P Moore was selected to provide structural engineering services for this 250,000 square-foot development which is currently pursuing LEED Silver certification.

About the Project
For over 70 years, Virginia Hospital Center has served the region as a valuable health and economic asset, providing excellent healthcare services. As the community and population continues to grow, the Virginia Hospital Center expansion project aims to address the increasing service and space demands facing the hospital.
The new facility includes an ambulatory surgery center, physicians’ offices, and an imaging center, among other public and ambulatory care spaces. The development includes a basement garden level, six elevated floors, and a rooftop mechanical penthouse, adjacent to a new, 2,700 car parking structure.
