Overview
When a significant strain on parking resources arrived on the heels of an enrollment spike at the University of Houston, it came as no surprise that they turned to Walter P Moore for help. Our team has been a long-standing and trusted partner of UH, previously providing parking and transportation master planning, parking design and engineering services on four of the five parking structures on the main campus. This new development offers 2,500 new parking spaces and also houses the UH School of Art Studio.

About the Project
A Tier One Research University, UH is strategically located between the nation’s fourth-largest city and NASA’s Johnson Space Center and is home to more than 46,000 students. This new 43,000-square-foot addition to the UH campus houses UH Parking and Transportation, Public Art Office suites and student exhibition space to showcase student art projects. The public art space, or “maker space,” will provide a viewing experience to the public as students hone their art skills.
The five-level precast garage is designed with an innovative cascading ramping system that can efficiently accommodate a mix of students, faculty, staff, and visitors while providing a high level of service. The ramps are conveniently located near one of the main traffic arteries to provide easy access to and from the main campus.
