About the Project
Walter P Moore provided Structural Engineering services for this new state-of-the-art practice and training facility for the Men’s and Women’s basketball programs at the University of Arkansas. Renamed the Marsha and Marty Martin Family Basketball Performance Center in 2023, this building houses separate gymnasiums for the men’s and women’s teams, each with two full courts and side baskets. Additionally, the facility houses locker rooms, weight rooms, hydrotherapy rooms, associated office areas, coaching staff suites, meeting rooms, a team lounge, and a Hall of Fame component.
This project set out to meet a minimum equivalent of a LEED Silver or Green Globes Two Globes sustainability level and exceeded that, achieving LEED Gold. The 66,000-square-foot Basketball Performance Center opened in the fall of 2015 and serves as the new home of the Razorback men’s and women’s basketball programs. It features two full-court gymnasiums, locker rooms, a weight room, an athletic training room, coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, a student-athlete lounge, study areas, and an equipment room.
The most significant components of the facility are two identical practice gyms, each spanning approximately 12,280 square feet. Each gym is equipped with six wall-mounted goals and two portable goals. Additionally, both gyms feature a state-of-the-art video coaching system with a large-format video display for reviewing practice footage captured by remotely operated ceiling-mounted cameras.
The Performance Center’s training room covers approximately 1,720 square feet and includes a large treadmill treatment pool, cold plunge pool, hot plunge pool, and a dual extremity pool. The weight room, which spans 4,030 square feet, offers a dedicated plyometric training area, private massage rooms, and offices for the strength coach.
