About the Project
Our team was selected by the Texas Department of Transportation Houston District to provide preliminary engineering services for developing a schematic design layout for the interchange of IH 45 South (Gulf Freeway) at Broadway and Park Place Boulevard, which was operating as a modified roundabout with traffic signals. Considerations included an existing overpass with low clearances and many support columns restricting lane configurations. The project contained an Environmental Assessment (EA) Document, public involvement, traffic engineering and operations, traffic simulations and 3-D modeling, and surveying and mapping.
We evaluated Level-of-Service for the existing and proposed conditions and performed an Origin and Destination Study. We created 6 Conceptual Alternatives, to be refined into 3 Viable Alternatives and 1 Recommended Alternative. The project also included a Preliminary Drainage Study and an Interstate Access Justification Report (IAJR) for the Recommended Alternative.
