Practice Areas

Rachel is a Managing Director in Walter P Moore’s Diagnostics Group, leveraging more than fifteen years of experience in structural engineering and building enclosure consulting with a background in historic preservation and sustainable design. Her expertise includes evaluating a wide range of existing structures and enclosures, including the design of repairs or new elements for a variety of building systems such as timber, steel, masonry, fenestration, and concrete. Rachel also uses her forensic experience to inform third-party review and enclosure consulting for new construction.

Experience

She has extensive experience in the assessment of building enclosures, especially archaic systems, leading project teams in investigating and developing design solutions to resolve water infiltration, construction failure, and deteriorated conditions. With a portfolio dedicated to governmental and institutional work, Rachel focuses on the performance, durability, and security needs of landmark structures and building enclosures from a lifecycle management perspective.

Engagements

Beyond her work with the firm, Rachel is involved with the Association for Preservation Technology (APT), serving as a lead for Disaster Response Initiative; sits on the boards of the Research Triangle Building Enclosure Council and the Association for Medical Facility Professionals Raleigh-Durham Chapter, has presented and published on a variety of topics related to building envelope rehabilitation, and serves as a mentor for the ACE Mentor Program for high school students. Rachel is a licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina, Virginia, and five other states.
