University of Houston Gateway Garage selected as Parking Structure of the Year
The Texas Parking & Transportation Association recognized the University of Houston’s Gateway Garage as their Parking Structure of the Year during their 2021 Conference and Tradeshow in Round Rock, Texas. Walter P Moore provided parking consulting and engineering services for the Gateway Garage.
“This project galvanized our relationship with the University of Houston for whom we have provided parking design services on five of their six parking structures on the main campus,” says Brian Lozano, principal and national director of Parking Consulting Services at Walter P Moore.
At the outset of the project, Bob Browand, director of the University of Houston’s Parking and Transportation Services team, provided a lofty vision for the project—to deliver the University of Houston with an award-winning parking structure. The façade of the garage creates a deliberate architectural statement that sets the tone for the campus entrance.
“Today, I am very proud that the design and construction team of Walter P Moore, EYP Architects, and Vaughn Construction, in collaboration with the University of Houston, was able to deliver an award-winning project,” Lozano says.
The six-level Gateway Garage features prominent vertical expressions at the elevator and stair cores, creating easily identifiable entry points. The 2,500-space pre-cast concrete garage is partially clad with a perforated metal panel curtain wall system fitted with programmable LEDs, lending to the surrounding ambiance. The garage is also equipped with over 100 security cameras, an electronic guidance system, and digital signage that directs users to open parking spaces.
