Jessalyn Nelson, PE
Walter P Moore proudly announced Jessalyn Nelson the 2021 recipient of the Javier F. Horvilleur Outstanding Young Professional Award. Nelson has successfully led some of the firm’s largest and most complex projects such as the Collaborative Research Building in the new Texas Medical Center development (TMC3) and the Houston Zoo Galápagos Islands exhibit. She has shown incredible dedication toward solving challenges for her clients and upholding our firm’s values.
Fun Fact: Nelson’s projects have been featured in industry publications such as Modern Steel Construction and have won awards through ENR and AIA Houston.
Yubrani Pinch, PE, PTOE
The Greater Houston Section of TexITE announced their annual Young Engineer of the Year Award winner, Yubrani Pinch. This honor serves to recognize Pinch’s technical ability and professional achievements, as well as her civic activities.
Pinch manages several project types throughout Texas. Utilizing her expertise in managing traffic impact studies, signal warrant analyses, traffic signal timing, traffic signal design, traffic control plans, signing, and pavement markings. Yubrani specializes in government, city, and DOT projects.
Fun Fact: Pinch’s goal is to connect transportation students with tangible experiences and professionals in the field. “She aims to mentor, encourage, and expose future generations to all of the exciting opportunities and challenges that the engineering industry brings.”
Kelly Roberts, PE, SE, LEED AP BD+C
Building Design+Construction selected Kelly Roberts to their 40 Under 40 Class of 2021.
Roberts leads the firm’s Sustainable Design Community of Practice and specializes in Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment and the use of sustainable and salvaged materials. Roberts even conducted whole building lifecycle assessments and embodied carbon studies on her own, long before the engineering industry embraced the practice.
Fun Fact: Roberts is a lead author for Walter P Moore’s stewardship report, Embodied Carbon: A Clearer View of Carbon Emissions.
Rafael Sabelli, PE, SE
American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) announced their 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award to Rafael Sabelli for his ongoing commitment and leadership in the fabricated structural steel industry.
Sabelli utilizes his experience in the design of structurally challenging projects located within high seismic regions. Rafael’s work in seismic design is industry-leading and an integral part of our firm’s capabilities and success.
Fun Fact: Sabelli is active in developing seismic design standards for steel systems and is a member of the AISC Committee on Specifications, serving as vice-chair of the Technical Committee on Seismic Provisions.
Shruti Sharma, PE
Sports Business Journal selected Shruti Sharma for their 2021 Class of Game Changers, an award honoring women who are leaders, trailblazers, and innovators in the sports industry.
Sharma has been behind some of the biggest sports venue projects over the past 16 years in her structural engineering design role. Sharma collaborates with the industry’s top architects, construction managers, and owners’ representatives. She’s also an industry-leading adopter of building information modeling, and the use of 3D modeling to design buildings.
Fun Fact: The ETFE-clad retractable roof Sharma helped design at Globe Life Field travels 400 feet in just 12 minutes. “The part where I can actually see what I built, to go there, to experience it, is irreplaceable,” said Sharma.”
