Walter P Moore’s team members showcased their exemplary leadership and expertise, earning recognition as ENR Regional Top Professionals. This prestigious accolade is awarded annually to dynamic young professionals under 40 who have made remarkable contributions to the AEC industry.
Our team members were honored in three significant regions: California, MidAtlantic, and the Mountain States. They have demonstrated unparalleled dedication leading large teams on multimillion-dollar projects, spearheading innovative approaches to project delivery, championing inclusivity in construction, and prioritizing sustainability.
ENR California
Ryan Anderson
As managing director of Walter P Moore’s San Diego office, Anderson oversees all operations in the region, including winning new projects and developing business opportunities.
His career began as a project manager at John A. Martin & Associates, where he spent nine years before joining Walter P Moore in 2017, becoming a principal the following year. From a leadership position, Anderson focuses on recruiting and retention, spearheading office planning initiatives and organizing social gatherings and team-building activities.
Anderson’s project portfolio includes several notable sports and entertainment venues, including SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome and Acrisure Arena. Other work has focused on academic projects, with a focus on the University of California and other higher education campuses.
Within the firm, Anderson commits time to several internal committees, such as the design-build community of practice and the sports community of practice. Beyond the office, he regularly contributes to beach cleanup initiatives and local food drives. Anderson also helps to inspire the next generation of engineers through K-12 classrooms and through the ACE Mentoring Program, where he has volunteered since 2011.
ENR MidAtlantic
Melissa Shea
As a leader in structural engineering and design, Shea contributes to reducing the built environment’s carbon footprint while transferring owners’ visions from model to reality. She also plays a crucial role in driving Walter P Moore’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Her insights and expertise were highly valued as a contributing author for a nationally recognized white paper on work flexibility strategies for recruitment and retention.
Shea mentors fellow employees and leads a working group dedicated to developing innovative industry tools—such as machine-learning software—to enhance efficiency and optimize decision-making processes.
In addition to participating in the Structural Engineers Association’s Metropolitan Washington chapter, Shea has served as a Girl Scout leader and camp cookout volunteer. She has also served as a volunteer counselor at Ecumenical Community Helping Others, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting individuals and families facing short-term emergencies.
ENR Mountain States
Tom Yost
Yost is a national leader in Walter P Moore’s “green team” and sustainable design community of practice. Among his responsibilities are promoting sustainable office design/build-out, encouraging sustainable transportation, education, and reducing wasteful practices in office operations. He’s often assigned to challenging, one-of-a-kind structures, including in both high seismic regions and high wind zones, and is experienced with a broad range of materials and project sectors.
His landmark projects include several at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., including a renovation of a grandstand structure for the 2024 Derby and a $200-million seating area scheduled for the 150th Derby in 2025. Yost is a project lead and responsible engineer in charge of the Panama project for the Washington, D.C., chapter of Engineers Without Borders. He biked 9,000 miles from Philadelphia to Hato Rincón, Panama, to raise awareness for the construction of a library and technical center there.
He also mentors AEC college students, helping them collaborate to empower remote communities.
