Randal M. Beard, PE (CO), FICRI, MASCE, principal and managing director of diagnostics at Walter P Moore, has been elected a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The announcement was made during ACI’s Spring 2021 Concrete Convention.
“Randy Beard has long been a resource, mentor, and devoted leader in our concrete restoration practice,” says Gabriel Jimenez, executive director of diagnostics at Walter P Moore. “We are thrilled his expertise and passion for concrete engineering are being recognized by the ACI with this fellowship. Among the many accolades, awards, and industry activities of his nearly 40-year career, this achievement will stand out. We feel no one is more deserving than Randy.”
According to ACI, a Fellow is an individual who has made “outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management.”
“This is a great honor to become a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute,” Beard says. “An astonishing amount of progress in concrete design, construction, and materials has been accomplished since the ACI organization was founded. I have always been taught by my mentors, of whom are many, to provide the necessary support to others in their efforts to attain expertise in the use and repair of concrete; share expertise with as many as possible; and strive to grow the industry.”
Beard has over 40 combined years of concrete restoration, engineering, and construction experience. He has been responsible for award-winning projects involving concrete restoration, strengthening and protective system design and construction, forensic investigation, material durability and performance, and the use of nondestructive testing.
Beard has been an active member of ACI since 2001. He is a member of many ACI technical committees and the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), and he fills leadership roles in both. He is a member of ACI Committees 364, Rehabilitation, and 562, Evaluation, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Concrete Buildings, along with being a Technical Activities Committee (TAC) document reviewer as requested.
Beard is one of 16 ACI members who were named a Fellow in 2021. Including the new honorees, 615 members are Fellows of ACI.
