Overview
The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) and DiscoverE Org—an organization dedicated to helping children of all ages encounter engineering—partner together each year setting aside one week to celebrate “Engineers Week.” Dubbed Eweek for short, the intended purpose is to celebrate careers in engineering as a whole but to also bring awareness to those invested in building a diverse and well-educated future engineering workforce by increasing understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.
To celebrate 2020 and support the theme, “Be a Pioneer of Progress,” Walter P Moore showcased how our firm and team members are seeking opportunities to partner with each other and our communities to encourage children and engineering students—of all ages and stages.
Pioneering progress can start at a very young age and these youngsters are engineered for all-nighters. Our engineers know that their greatest investment starts at home.
Whether it is speaking at career days or having the opportunity to judge a robotics competition, Walter P Moore team members aim to inspire the next generation of young innovators by showing up and being present in their classrooms. For some students, this is their only exposure to careers in engineering.
ACE Mentor provides hands-on encounters in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries for high school students through mentoring, volunteer missions, and relevant activities. Several Walter P Moore offices are involved in mentorship opportunities as well as hosting weekly workshops for students. Additionally, Walter P Moore’s Houston office is an avid supporter of Genesys Works, welcoming school-age interns each year.
Our experts don’t stay in their offices. From India to the Heartland of the United States, our engineers are excited to have the invitation to share their expertise with students across the globe.
Walter P Moore’s internship program (main image) encourages hands-on training which equips students to better assess future opportunities and receive exposure to world-class projects while learning from industry experts.
Walter P Moore continues to find various avenues to invest in generations of students interested in pursuing careers in the AEC industry. From attending grade school career days and leading ACE mentoring workshops to hosting university-level seminars and a robust college intern program, our team members are building the future one mind at a time.
