Overview
Building Design+Construction selected Kelly Roberts, PE, SE, LEED AP BD+C, principal and project manager, Structures Group at Walter P Moore to their 40 Under 40 Class of 2021.
Roberts has extensive structural and sustainable design experience ranging from educational and healthcare facilities to office towers. Having spent her 14-year career entirely at Walter P Moore, Roberts was promoted to principal at the age of 33, one of the youngest principals in the firm’s 90-year history.
Roberts leads the firm’s Sustainable Design Community of Practice, and specializes on Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment and the use of sustainable and salvaged materials. From the onset of her career, Roberts proactively advanced sustainable design practices within the firm—even conducting whole building lifecycle assessments and embodied carbon studies on her own, long before the engineering industry embraced the practice. Additionally, Roberts is a lead author of Walter P Moore’s stewardship report, Embodied Carbon: A Clearer View of Carbon Emissions.
In addition to being named to Building Design+Construction’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2021, Roberts has been named 100 Most Influential Women by Engineering Georgia multiple times (2022, 2021, and 2019), recognized by ENR as a Top Young Professional (2018), and named a 2017 Design Futures Council Emerging Leader.
