Walter P Moore’s team members showcased their exceptional leadership and expertise, earning recognition as Engineering News Record’s Regional Top Professionals. Awarded annually, this prestigious honor recognizes outstanding young professionals under 40 who have made significant contributions to the AEC industry.

Our team members were recognized in two significant regions: California and Southeast. Their unwavering dedication has been evident in leading large teams on multimillion-dollar projects, pioneering innovative project delivery methods, and championing inclusivity and sustainability in construction has set them apart. 

ENR California

Margaux Burkholder

As a Senior Project Manager of Walter P Moore’s Los Angeles office, Margaux is an expert in the high seismic regions of California, working with architects and contractors to provide resilient and sustainable cost-effective structural solutions to their projects. Margaux, expertise in traditional and design-built projects allows her to bring a philosophy of open communication and collaboration to the table. Her portfolio includes landmark projects such as the $1.3-billion Intuit Dome and the $234-million County of Los Angeles Hall of Justice seismic retrofit.

Margaux has served on several internal committees, including the project management committee. She is also the national leader of the sustainable design community of practice. An expert in concrete design and was elected to the American Concrete Institute Southern California Chapter’s board of directors in 2019. She currently serves as vice president, leading the evolution of concrete specifications. 

A personal passion for Margaux is the fostering of young students’ interest in the design and construction industry. As a result, she is a mentor for the ACE Mentor Los Angeles Program whose mission is to engage, excite, and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering, and construction. She is also part of the Advisory Board for the Structural Engineering Department at Cal Poly, SLO which helps to guide the future of the curriculum and prepare future college graduates for success in the industry.

ENR Southeast

Nila Abubakar

As a leader and Managing Director of the Diagnostics group in Atlanta, Abubakar specializes in analysis, design, construction, inspection, forensic, and failure investigations. She provides quality control on construction sites while ensuring and enforcing compliance with appropriate safety standards. She has performed engineering assessments and provided technical support for expert witness testimony. She has led investigations and testified on matters related to construction defects, design deficiencies, and the aftermath of natural or other disasters.

Abubakar has served on the board of Young Professionals in Transportation, as a committee chair for the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association, and as a delegate for the Property Insurance Claims Group Academy. 

She has also participated in career day events at Paul Duke STEM School and Laura Jeffrey Academy, an all-girls science school in Minnesota.
