Overview

Principal and Senior Project Manager Shruti Sharma has been chosen among Sports Business Journal’s 2021 class of Game Changers; an award honoring women who are leaders, trailblazers, and innovators in the sports industry.

Per Sports Business Journal, “These women make up one of the most accomplished groups of executives ever assembled. They are the thought leaders across their organizations and their impressive work extends from events and venues to social responsibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion. These Game Changers serve as role models and mentors to young women striving to enter and succeed in sports business.”

Shruti Sharma has been behind some of the biggest sports venue projects of the past 16 years in her structural engineering design role at Walter P Moore. She’s worked on Globe Life Field, Fiserv Forum, KFC Yum! Center, the Daytona Rising renovation, Kyle Field redevelopment, Wells Fargo Center renovation and Lucas Oil Stadium, her first project.

The ETFE-clad retractable roof Sharma helped design at Globe Life Field travels 400 feet in just 12 minutes. “The part where I can actually see what I built, to go there, to experience it, is irreplaceable,” said Sharma, compared to other types of engineers whose work is hidden behind walls or in ceilings.

She also contributed to a venue about to open, Protective Stadium, and one that’s just getting underway, the Clippers’ Intuit Dome.

Almost 50% of engineers in her office are women, impressive in a mostly male-dominated industry and certainly not the case when she began. In 16 years with the Houston-based engineering firm, Sharma’s career has morphed into client management, marketing and project oversight.

“I don’t want to get confined into one narrow part of engineering. It is important for me to look at the big picture and it is important to get the whole team going with me,” Sharma said.

Sharma collaborates with the industry’s top architects, construction managers and owners’ representatives. She’s also an industry-leading adopter of building information modeling, the use of 3D modeling to design buildings.
