Overview
When envisioning Globe Life Field, the Texas Rangers partnered with the design team to create a retractable roof that would allow natural light into the ballpark creating an outdoor experience even when it was closed. Find out how they are accomplishing this feat with Moore Expert Joseph Dowd in this exclusive with PanStadia & Arena Management.
“Unlike most Major League Baseball roofs, however, the Rangers’ new operable roof will come with quite a bit of transparency featuring Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene film (ETFE) prominently throughout the new $1.2 billion, 40,300-seat facility.
‘We designed Globe Life Field to be a next-generation ballpark,’ says Greg Whittemore, Principal of HKS Sports and Entertainment, the lead architecture firm.
‘One of our chief goals is to maximise the amount of natural light inside. Through the ETFE panels on the roof and glass walls along the sides, Globe Life will have an outdoor feel even when the roof is closed.’
ETFE provides a signature linear feature down the central spine of the almost 300,000ft2 mechanised roof.”
