Overview
Each year, engineering and design firms submit their proudest projects to the appropriate state chapter of the American Council of Civil Engineering Companies, hoping to showcase their expertise by winning an Engineering Excellence Award.
This year, four Walter P Moore projects were honored with a state award in their respective chapters.
CALIFORNIA
SoFi Stadium, pictured above, was recognized as a 2022 ACEC California Honor Award winner.
SoFi Stadium is the centerpiece of Hollywood Park, a 300-acre mixed-use development in Inglewood, CA, being developed by Los Angeles Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke. SoFi Stadium is already slated to host a variety of events, including Super Bowl LVI in 2022 and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
TEXAS
Two projects received Gold Awards from ACEC Texas:
Opened in 2020, the 132-acre Houston Botanic Garden was designed and constructed around Sims Bayou—one of the primary streams in the City of Houston—which runs through the middle of the Garden. Walter P Moore was involved in the initial site due-diligence and helped create the Garden’s $100 million master plan, and ultimately the civil, water resources, bridge, traffic, and structural design.
Globe Life Field—home of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Texas Rangers—not only caters to baseball fans of all ages but provides an anchor for Texas Live!, a world-class entertainment district that draws premier events to the City of Arlington year-round. The stadium features stunning architecture loaded with state-of-the-art technology and offers fresh new game day experiences at every turn.
GEORGIA
Charlotte Convention Center, pictured above, was recognized as a 2022 ACEC Georgia State Award winner.
Charlotte Convention Center Expansion features a stunning architecture light rail bridge creating an elevated, landscape link between the convention center, The Westin, and Lynx Light Rail’s Stonewall Station. The facility includes meeting rooms, networking space, iconic pedestrian plaza, and seating area overlooking Stonewall Street. Walter P Moore provided economical reinforcing solutions to convert 90 ft long roof trusses into new floor trusses.
