Computational Designer- Structural

Responsibilities

Walter P Moore has an immediate opening for a Computational Designer.  In this position the Computational Designer will focus on the development and application of advanced digital workflows and data driven strategies that continuously advance project delivery processes. The computational designer works across structural engineering teams in the delivery of complex projects and works under immediate supervision of other digital practice leaders in advancing our firmwide digital practice initiatives. 

This role is based out of our Dallas office. Occasional travel to the Dallas office will be asked of the candidate if they are not located there. The locations listed in this posting are preferred, but candidates based in other locations will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development and deployment of digital workflows via code and visual scripting
  • Assists in the development of BIMs and model-related deliverables
  • Develops, communicates, and maintains scripting and modeling standards across the Structural Engineering project delivery teams
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in project delivery related to technology and data-driven processes
  • Develops visuals for communicating with clients and project teams to inform for better design decisions
  • Develops and maintains online documentation around the latest digital practices across the firm
  • Works with project team to plan project-specific digital implementation, including analysis,
    design, documentation, fabrication, and construction models

Qualifications

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, or Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • 3+ years experience in a designer role
  • Understanding of BIM as a process and concepts of parametric modeling, computational design, and interoperability
  • Familiarity with Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Revit and how it is used in practice required
  • Familiarity with Rhino. Inside, Tekla Structures, Adobe Creative Suite, Power BI, ETABS or SAP2000 preferred
  • Experience in programming language (Python, C#, JavaScript), Git, and collaborative coding a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate visually with data visualizations, diagrams, and 3D renderings
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong client-service attitude with ability to multi-task and accomplish multiple priorities

Hybrid Firm Position:

As a Hybrid Firm, Walter P Moore combines the best of both worlds – blending work options to include in-office and home office environments. This allows us to offer more flexibility and work-life integration to our employees. Candidates applying for this position should have the ability to commute to or periodically travel to the affiliated office.

To ensure the ability to setup a suitable home office space, Walter P Moore offers a one-time $1,000 stipend that would be paid upon completion of the first week of employment. An additional $50 monthly stipend will also be provided to cover ongoing home office expenses.
