Health Sciences Research Building

The Health Sciences Research Building (HSRB) is a state of the art facility for pediatric and cancer research and laboratory modules for drug discovery. Over half of the space will house Emory-Children's Pediatric Research Center, a partnership between Emory and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Brumley Bridge, a 6,000 square foot, two-story pedestrian bridge provides a connection between the new HSRB and the existing Emory Children’s Center.

The HSRB features over 10,000 square feet of biosafety level 2 and 3 laboratory space, a 160-seat auditorium and a cafe dining area with outdoor seating options. The specialized programming requirements created opportunities for unique structural solutions. The design team engaged Walter P Moore’s Healthcare Community of Practice to determine the best structural strategies for the building. Our team quickly devised a framing system that optimized column sizes and beam depths while still satisfying the stringent vibration requirements for the building’s program.
