Neighborhood Streets Reconstruction Program

Overland Park
Kansas

As part of their investment to maintain and enhance high-quality public infrastructure, the City of Overland Park initiated the Neighborhood Streets Reconstruction Program. Walter P Moore provided design services for the 2015 Neighborhood Streets Reconstruction Program in the Blue Valley Meadows subdivision in southern Overland Park. The improvements included 3,300 linear feet of new asphalt pavement with concrete curb and gutters. New concrete sidewalks and post-top street lights were designed to increase safety and pedestrian access.

The storm sewer system was upgraded with new curb inlets and concrete pipe. The improvements provide flood protection during a 1% design storm with minimal inconvenience to streets and traffic. Walter P Moore modified grading from the City’s typical section to save existing trees. A comprehensive public relations approach was implemented to keep the residents and property owners informed. Project introduction letters and resident questionnaires were distributed immediately following notice-to-proceed. Three public meetings were held to present plans to area residents and gather feedback.
