December 7, 2018

Diagnostics expert, Sunil Puri, summarizes the recent amendment to the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations affecting owners, operators, or managers of parking garages.

Whether you are an owner, operator, or manager of a parking garage, you understand that there is never a dull moment in this business. If you have garages in New York State, you are now required to have them regularly inspected by a licensed engineer. Following is a brief summary of the recent amendment to the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations, which took effect August 29, 2018.

Parking garage owners — including private, municipal, and state-owned facilities — must now obtain an operating permit by retaining a qualified professional engineer. The engineer should have experience in structural evaluation and will conduct an on-site inspection and evaluation of the parking facility to identify deterioration and evidence of any unsafe conditions.
