About the project

The gleaming edifice of BHP Billiton Tower supports 600,000 square feet of office space for sole tenant BHP Billiton Petroleum, bringing 3,000 jobs to the Uptown area. The building is recognized as the pinnacle of this dynamic urban environment, where high-rise office buildings, residential towers, dining, entertainment, and luxury retail shopping, including Houston’s Galleria, converge.

Energy companies exist in a highly competitive world and need incentives to attract the industry’s finest. In order to balance economical and statement features, the project delivery team relied on LEAN design principles to optimize useable square footage while maintaining signature architectural characteristics. Walter P Moore was integral in achieving this balance.

Our flexible design approach allowed our team to accommodate significant tenant-requested changes made late in design without impacting the overall budget or schedule. We also worked directly with the geotechnical engineer to successfully develop a retention system to accommodate an existing box culvert adjacent to the property line on the north side, avoiding costly delays and redesigns.
