Senior Engineer

Based in our San Francisco office, Laura Whitehurst is a structural engineer whose work includes design with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry, with an emphasis on seismic design. She is actively involved in several organizations, including serving as a Director for the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California, and as Vice President of the Engineers Alliance for the Arts. She has a passion for seismic safety of buildings and has been deployed to Napa, California and Kathmandu, Nepal to assess buildings in the wake of major earthquakes. She is a licensed civil and structural engineer in California and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cornell University and a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from Stanford University.

Complex, interesting projects, and the chance to work with the experts in the industry.
If you had to choose a different career, what would it be?
Musician. I play violin in a community orchestra, and wish I could devote more time to music.
What gives you the most satisfaction in your work?
Watching the structure I drew on paper come to life.
