What does the ‘P’ in Walter P Moore stand for?

Even if you’ve known us for decades and didn’t know that the ‘P’ is for PARKER, no worries. To many (if not most) of us at the firm, this 9th #FunFact also came as news. 

Walter Parker Moore, Sr., P.E. (1903-1983) graduated from the Rice Institute (now Rice University) and was licensed as Texas P.E. 116, which he received alphabetically in 1938, the first year Texas officially began licensing engineers. He was the sole owner of the firm from 1931-1967 when it was incorporated, served as President from 1967-1971, then Chairman of the Board until 1982 and Chairman Emeritus until his death. MORE

Son Walter Parker Moore, Jr., Ph.D., P.E. (1937-1998) also graduated from Rice University and later the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He served as a Principal since 1967 and later became President and Chairman of the Board until he retired from day-to-day operations in 1993 to pursue professorship full time at Texas A&M University.
